Welcome to Zambia Safari Lodges

The Zambia Safari Lodges are the undiscovered treasure trove of Africa.

There are at least a hundred reasons to visit the Zambia Safari Lodges.

It shelters extraordinary natural beauty and is one of Africa’s most pristine and unspoiled wildlife safari destinations.

From intimate, often privately owned safari lodges in Zambia, guests explore on foot, by 4×4 safari vehicles, or by boat.

Accompanied by some of the best safari guides in the world, with exceptional experience of walking safaris, each excursion is a thrill, each wildlife sighting unique.

And although the raw beauty of Zambia’s vast reserves has long made them a favorite for safari connoisseurs, they don’t attract the crowds that cluster around sightings in the better-known parks in Africa – in fact, the only bustle you’re likely to find is at the country’s most popular attraction – the spectacular Victoria Falls.

Zambia Safari Lodges is a paradise for guests wanting to immerse themselves in the wilderness.

The wildlife experience is incredible, and we recommend it as much for first-time safari goers as seasoned veterans.

Enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of Zambia’s wild without the interference of crowds.

You can interact with local owners, trackers, and rangers on a personal basis and get a feel for the real Zambia.

Best time to visit Zambia Safari Lodges:

The dry season of Zambia stretches from mid-April to mid-November after which many safari lodges become inaccessible.

We recommend July to September as a good time to travel as it is dry and game viewing is good during this peak season.

If you have a sensitive budget, the shoulder season (May and June) offers lower rates and great value for money.

The green season (December to April) is terrific for birdlife.

Where to go in Zambia:

Zambia has so many amazing game reserves and regions.

Where to stay in your Zambia Safari Lodges will depend on what you want to enjoy.

Below we’ll be able to set out the different national parks and areas to visit in Zambia.

South Luangwa National Park Safari Lodges:

South Luangwa National Park is one of the most magnificent wilderness areas in southern Africa.

The South Luangwa is Zambia’s most famous safari park.

Fanning out on either side of the Luangwa River, fertile plains are dotted with grazing animals.

With lush grass, shallow lakes, shrubby bushes, and stands of trees spreading to the escarpment, the setting is almost pastoral.

For fantastic bug game viewing in Zambia, our top choice would undoubtedly be the South Luangwa National Park.

Few parks in Africa can match the phenomenon density of game that gathers at Luangwa’s lakes and river: massive herds of elephant, hippo, and buffalo, well-fed pride of lion, graceful giraffe, and Nile crocodiles are crowd pleasers.

While Luangwa National Park’s original camps are still going strong, others have joined them, from the rustic to the sophisticated, the budget to the truly exclusive, the accessible to the remote.

For many, easy access is key.

Just a short drive from the airport, a plethora of safari lodges cluster around the main Mfuwe gate and you don’t have to go far in search of wildlife.

Some safari camps and lodges in Luangwa are geared entirely to walking safaris.

Others specialize in photography, with purpose-built hides and specially trained safari guides.

Still, others offer chandeliered splendor or focus on families or even camping.

But all have wildlife at their heart.

Victoria Falls (Livingstone) Safari Lodges:

No trip to Zambia would be complete without a visit to Victoria Falls.

Nothing quite prepares you for your first sight of the Zambezi River in full flood thundering over Victoria Falls.

Livingstone has become synonymous with thrills, none more awe-inspiring than the “flight of angels” over the Victoria Falls.

Above the falls, the mighty Zambezi runs broad and calm, a superb setting for a leisurely sundowner boat trip, a spot of canoeing to get close to the river range of birdlife, or perhaps afternoon tea with a twist.

Lining the river, classy Zambia Safari Lodges bring more than a touch of luxury to the setting, their standards of food, hospitality, and service vying with the best of the safari lodges.

Downstream, where the falls tumble into the deep Batoka Gorge, rushing waters and towering cliffs invite adrenaline-fuelled adventures.

At the heart of all this drama, the small town of Livingstone is comparatively modest.

With a fascinating little museum, a range of small hotels, some within walking distance of the Falls, and a good craft market, it’s an attraction in its own right.

In this small corner of Zambia, luxury, adventure, and unrivaled scenery come together to pack a big punch.

Lower Zambezi National Park Safari Lodges:

The Lower Zambezi National Park is one of our favorite safari lodge destinations in Zambia.

The Lower Zambezi National Park is a peaceful game reserve with wide floodplains and a wild mountain backdrop.

Flowing wide and slow, the mighty Zambezi defines the park, with riverine trees hugging its banks, grassland beyond, and wildlife all around.

Lining the Zambian side of the mighty Zambezi, Lower Zambezi is opposite Zimbabwe’s famous Mana Pools and shares its northern border with the huge rift escarpment.

The different habitats encourage a great variety of flora and fauna.

For the Zambia safari enthusiast, it’s a winning combination: the river nurturing the land alongside, lush grazing attracting plains game and predators, and a permanent source of water that proves an irresistible draw as the land dries out each year.

Only a handful of Lower Zambezi safari lodges and camps sit on the riverbank, with a slew of day safari activities perfectly arranged to suit your mood.

With scarcely another lodge in striking distance, each offers a personal safari experience in an exceptionally scenic setting.

In the hands of rigorously trained guides – among the best in Africa – set out in search of creatures big and small.

But above all, the Lower Zambezi invites you to simply stop and stare – enjoy the moment – you are only here for a few moments in time.

Kafue National Park Safari Lodges:

Kafue National Park in Zambia is wild and unspoiled, is bigger than the Kruger National Park, yet receives a fraction of its visitors.

It’s the endless, horizon-stretching size of Kafue that hits you.

Kafue is Zambia’s oldest and largest national park but is often lost in the shadow of the popular South Luangwa.

On a par with Wales or Vermont, it’s really big.

Falling within the park’s protection are so many diverse environments that it would be tempting to look no further.

For the safari enthusiast, arguably the pick of these is the tree-fringed Busanga Plains, teeming with wildlife in the dry season and a mecca for predators.

Where the river is the widest, there are boat trips to be had.

Welcoming visitors to the wilderness are just a handful of small, highly personal Zambia Safari Lodges, several of them still run by owners whose passion for the Kafue is lifelong.

Others come on mobile safaris, guided by those whose knowledge and understanding of the area is born of years of experience.

North Luangwa National Park Safari Lodges:

North Luangwa National Park is about as remote as it gets in Africa.

Remote and wild, North Luangwa is a walking safari destination only.

This park is probably the quietest.

Roads are few, vehicles even fewer, and visitors barely register on the radar.

Central to the park is the rhino sanctuary, whose denizens roam unseen within strictly guarded confines.

There are only a few safari lodges up here.

These camps have an intimacy that is almost unequaled in the South Luangwa.

Yet beneath their simplicity lie comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, good food, and an efficiency of operation that includes exceptionally well-qualified guides.

Liuwa Plain National Park Safari Lodges:

Once the hunting ground of the King of Barotseland, Liuwa Plain National Park remains wild and exclusive, underpinned by a truly remote setting.

Wide, open grasslands define this isolated park.

As the rains build towards the end of each year, shoots of new grass attract herbivores in their thousands.

No matter what your interest, exploration is dictated by the season: 4WD in the drier months, canoe, and on foot as the plains are flooded.Lusaka:

Lusaka is Zambia’s capital city.

Located in the southern region of Zambia, Lusaka offers transport links to most of the national parks within the country.

A sprawling mix of wide colonial streets, functional architecture, traffic-exhaust fumes, and noisy, grassroots culture, this is as Africa as you can get.
